History

Calvary Cemetery was established by the City as a burial ground for African-American citizens on January 9, 1877.

The original Calvary was a 23 acre site lying on Tanner’s Creek north of Princess Anne Road. It was originally farmland owned by the Ballentine family.

Over the years, the City has acquired additional land and Calvary Cemetery today is 68 acres.  Calvary has graves available for purchase.
