INTRODUCTION
The Circuit
Court Land Record Division is the custodian, or keeper of all
land records for the City of Norfolk. These records include
deeds showing property ownership, mortgages, certain liens and
homestead exemptions. All records in the Land Record Division
are open to the public. The Land Record Division is a high
volume, fast paced office and for that reason we are unable to
perform searches.
REQUIREMENTS
When a deed
is presented for recordation it must be have, a typed Virginia
Land Record bar code cover sheet. The bar code cover sheet can
be down loaded from the internet. The website address is
www.landsystems.com.
We only record original documents, or a certified court copy
from another court. They must be signed and properly notarized
by a person authorized to perform the act of notary public.
Each document, if not being picked up after being recorded, must
be accompanied by a self address stamp envelop for proper
return.
FEES
All
documents when presented in the clerk’s office for recording
require a recording tax in accordance with the Virginia State
Code, except those exempted under the Virginian State Code. The
taxes are calculated as follows:
State tax
- .25 per hundred dollars
Local tax -
.085 per hundred dollars

A Clerk’s
fee is also required on all documents.
Assignments - $21.00
Certificates of Satisfaction - $31.00
Deed of Homestead - $21.00
Power of Attorney - $21.00
Substitute Trustee's Deed - $21.00
Deed of Gift - $22.00

$32.00 - up to 10 pages
$46.00 - 11 to 30 pages
$66.00 - 31 or more pages
DOT
$32.00 - up to 10 pages
$45.00 - 11 to 30 pages
$65.00 - 31 or more pages
Additionally, copies are $0.50 per page.
To certify a document - $2.00
A $1.00
transfer fee is also required on all documents transferring the
ownership of title.

All
documents received in the clerk’s office by 3:30 p.m., will go
to record as of that day. All documents received after 3:30
p.m. will be recorded on the following business day.

Any
document that doesn’t meet recordation requirements will be
returned and charge an extra $5.00 mail handling/processing fee. |
