NORFOLK AIRPORT AUTHORITY

DESCRIPTION

The Norfolk Airport Authority is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Norfolk International Airport. Meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of every month at 1:00 p.m.

STIPULATIONS

Commissioners are appointed by the Norfolk City Council, and serve for terms of four years. One-third of the commissioners may be from areas outside Norfolk, but must be living in Norfolk at the time of appointment and throughout the term. The commissioners elect one of their members as chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, and treasurer. The Secretary and Treasurer may or may not be a commissioner. Commissioners receive no salary.

HOSPITAL AUTHORITY OF NORFOLK

DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the hospital authority is to insure the construction, maintenance, and operation of adequate hospital facilities for the care of the public health, specifically Lake Taylor Hospital. The authority meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 8 a.m.

STIPULATIONS

Commissioners are appointed by the mayor and council. No more than three commissioners are practicing physicians, and no officer or employee of the city is eligible for appointment. Terms of office are staggered six-year terms. No more than four successive terms are allowed. The authority selects a chair, vice-chair, and any other officers it deems necessary.

NORFOLK ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY

DESCRIPTION

The mission of the authority is to promote industry and develop trade by inducing manufacturing, industrial, governmental, and commercial enterprises to locate in or remain in this area. It meets on every fourth Thursday of the month at 7:30 a.m.

NORFOLK REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY

DESCRIPTION

This authority is in charge of changing blighted or deteriorated areas that need redeveloping. It seeks to rid the city of unsanitary and unsafe inhabited dwelling accommodations, taking care of any shortage of safe dwelling accommodations. It meets on every 3rd Monday of the month at 10:00 a.m.
