Paul
R. Riddick was first elected to Council in July 1992 representing
Ward 4.
Riddick is owner and operator of Riddick Funeral Service in Norfolk.
He attended Norfolk State University and has an A.A.S. degree in
funeral service from John Tyler Community College, Chester, Virginia.
He is chairman of the Southside Task Force and is a member of the
Church Street/Huntersville Development Committee. He serves on the
Legislative and Strategic Planning and Youth, Education and Neighborhoods
council committees. He also represents the city as a member of the Southeastern Tidewater Opportunity Project and Chairman of the Regional Jail Authority.
Additionally, he is a member and former Vestryman of Grace Episcopal
Church; former President of the Norfolk Branch of NAACP; Lead Plaintiff
in Riddick vs. Norfolk City School Board (a suit filed to prevent
the return to segregated elementary schools); member of Eastern
Light 04 Masonic Lodge, Prince Hall Mason; Alpha and Omega Consistory
#9; Norfolk Funeral Directors and Embalmers Assn.; Virginia Morticians
Assn.; Tux Club and Hiawatha Social and Beneficial Assn. (the two
oldest Black men's club in Norfolk's history); Bachelor Benedict
Social Club (the organization has presented African-American females
as Debutantes since 1921.); voted Omega Psi Phi Citizen of the Year
by the Lamda Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity incorporated
and was honored by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority as a "Citizen of Tomorrow."
Mr. Riddick
has five children and is the proud grandfather of six.
