Father charged with murder following shooting on 19th Bay Street

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – A father has been charged with murder in connection with a shooting Wednesday night that left his 4-year-old child dead.

Rayvon A. Messer, 26, of the 9500 block of 19th Bay Street, was arrested by detectives early Thursday morning. Messer has been charged with second degree murder, and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail with no bond. 

Messer is accused of the shooting which occurred Wednesday night in Ocean View.  

Around 7:45 p.m., police and paramedics were called to the 9500 block of 19th Bay Street for a report of child shot. When they arrived, they found the boy outside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound.  He was rushed to a local hospital, but died shortly afterward. 

Detectives have not released any further details or circumstances surrounding the shooting.
