Keeping Up With Important Information During a Citywide Emergency

Accurate, timely and local information is key to help Norfolk’s residents prepare for, survive and recover from a hurricane or other citywide disaster or emergency.

It is equally important that residents have a quick way to share non-emergency disaster or storm-related details.

In this short Mermaid City Unpacked video, Jim Redick, Norfolk’s director of emergency preparedness and response, tells you how to access Norfolk’s information resources.

Among those resources is Norfolk Alert, technology that allows the city to send a geographically targeted message to land lines in a section of the city (to issue flood warning, for instance). However, if you no longer use a land line, you will need to register your cell phone or email to receive these important messages.
