Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Linda Bryant is the recipient of the 2010 Virginia Duvall Distinguished Prosecutor Award, which recognizes excellence in juvenile prosecution and domestic violence prosecution. She received the award during The Spring Institute, a statewide conference for prosecutors hosted by the Commonwealth’s Attorneys’ Services Council and the Virginia Association of Commonwealth’s Attorneys, meeting in Norfolk from April 11-14, 2010.
As a Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney, Mrs. Bryant manages a caseload of her own and oversees a team of prosecutors responsible for the prosecution of violent crimes committed by and/or against juveniles and cases where members of a family or close relationship are charged with committing crimes against a relative or loved one.
Mrs. Bryant also holds leadership positions with various public safety related organizations and agencies, including the Norfolk Juvenile Justice Collaborative and the Norfolk Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team. Her work with the Norfolk Juvenile Justice Collaborative includes playing a significant role in the implementation of a state program, Virginia Rules, in Norfolk. The program, developed by the Office of the Virginia Attorney General, utilizes state-specific lesson plans on a variety of topics to educate young Virginians about state laws and to help them develop the skills needed to make sound decisions. Through the Norfolk Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team, Mrs. Bryant reviews incidents of domestic violence with agencies to encourage conversation about what happened and what can be done to prevent future incidents.
Mrs. Bryant joined the Office of the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney in July 1996.
