2008 SUMMER MUNICIPAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

PROGRAM OPPORTUNITIES

The City's Municipal Internship Program is a highly popular program with a history of attracting students on a national scale. The program's goal is to provide meaningful curriculum-related experience in a professional working environment. Students interested in or considering careers in public service are encouraged to apply.  Internship positions will be available for an eight-week period beginning in the first part of June and ending in August. Participants will be compensated at a rate of $8.40/hr. for undergraduate students and $10.71/hr. for graduate students. The City of Norfolk offers a wide range of careers for almost every major and career occupation therefore all majors are encouraged to apply. Project areas students will be selected for include but are not limited to:
Accounting or Auditing Finance Physical Education
Budgeting Geography/GIS Public Administration Economics
Business Administration Human Resources Public Relations
Civil Engineering Marketing Recreational and Human Development
Computer Science Mass Communications Sociology
Criminology Psychology
 

REQUIREMENTS

Students who have attained at least a junior-level status while currently in attendance at a four-year college or university are eligible to apply. Current post-graduate (Master, Doctorate, etc.) students are also eligible. Students who will be graduating immediately before the start of the program (those graduating in May) will maintain their eligibility for the upcoming 2008 summer session.

 

HOW TO APPLY

Applications will be accepted starting February 15 until May 16, 2008. Apply early for the program because intern positions will be filled as projects are submitted. A completed City of Norfolk Municipal Internship Program Application (located at the link below) and an attached copy of the college/university transcript are required to be considered for the program.  Your specific major and minor areas of study must be entered on the application. Positions will be filled on a competitive basis.

 

In order to be eligible for consideration for the City of Norfolk Municipal Internship Program, applicants must electronically attach the most recent college transcript that contains their name and the name of the college or university they are attending.
