Norfolk Tap Water

Services
Norfolk’s Department of Utilities is the second largest waterworks in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  As a regional water purveyor, Norfolk provides top quality drinking water to 850,000 customers in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, parts of Chesapeake, and to the US Navy.  In addition to water, the Department of Utilities also provides wastewater collection service to approximately 240,000 residents in Norfolk.

Mission
Enhance quality of life by providing excellent water and wastewater services at the best possible value for our customers.

Goals
  • To exceed customer expectations through fast, effective and courteous service.
  • Embrace new and better ways of achieving quality results through creativity, initiative and technology.
  • Protect and respect our natural resources and foster a healthy, safe and clean environment.

Brrr... Pipes Get Cold Too!  Prevent Freezing Pipes

  • Drain and disconnect all outdoor hoses.
  • Let water drip from faucets during extremely cold temperatures to prevent pipes from freezing.
  • Insulate pipes in unheated areas, such as garages, attics and crawl spaces.
  • Install heat tape or heat cable on exposed water pipes or pipes located in areas where the temperature may fall below freezing.

Keep Your Drains FOG-Free
Never dispose of fats, oils and grease (FOG) down the drain.  Keep your drains clog-free and healthy by canning the grease, scrapping the plate, catching the scraps with a strainer and recycling large quantities of used cooking oil.  For more information, please visit the FOG Program webpage.
