Volunteer Opportunities


The Department of Neighborhood Preservation, Bureau of Community Outreach has wonderful volunteer opportunities through many of our programs.

Home Rehabilitation and Resource Initiative Voluteerism

The Home Rehabilitation and Resource Initiative (HRRI) focuses on using volunteers to assist qualified Norfolk residents with needed home rehabilitation services to ensure that their homes are safe, warm, and dry.

Volunteer opportunities include:wcvolunteer

  • Serving on a volunteer rehab work crew
  • Organizing a group to adopt a house to work on
  • Serving as a runner – to take needed materials to work crews
  • Cooking and serving lunches to work crews

Homes receiving assistance and materials will be arranged by the HRRI.


TAG-OUT Graffiti Abatment Volunteerism

The TAG-OUT Graffiti Abatement Program works directly with concerned residents, business-owners and community based agencies to identify, report, and remove graffiti from public and private spaces in Norfolk. 

tagoutVolunteers can participate in the following ways:

  • Adopting-A-Spot to keep graffiti-free for 6 months
  • Requesting a TAG-OUT cleanup event for your group
  • Participating in a TAG-OUT cleanup event

Graffiti removal supplies will be provided by the Bureau of Community Outreach.

 
Other volunteer opportunities include participating in one-time special events such as National Night Out, Fix-It Trade Show, and Neighborhood Service Centers' events.
