Metered parking has many
benefits to residents and businesses.
It provides convenient on-street
parking for business patrons and encourages turnover of
parking spaces for the short-term visitors.
The Division of Parking manages and operates a on-street and off-street
metered parking program that encompasses more than 600 metered spaces.
The Division uses state-of-the-art electronic parking meters which
accepts Meter ParkCards, quarters, dimes and nickels. All on-street meters
are priced in 15-minute increments and are based on a value price
structure. Click
here for a list of metered area locations and hourly
rates.

On-Street
Time Limit Parking
Metered
spaces are intended for short-term parking. The purpose of the time
limit is to ensure that parking spaces regularly become available
for customers of area businesses and visitors. To manage on-street
parking, meters have a 2-hour limit, with the exception of the meters
in front of the Waterside Marketplace, which have a 15-minute limit.
Time limits are clearly posted
in all controlled parking areas. After you have parked in
a time limit zone for the posted time you must move your vehicle
to another location to avoid being cited. You must leave a
parking space when the time limit posted on the meter has been reached.
In order to encourage turnover of parking spaces for visitors 'meter-feeding'
(depositing additional coins in the meter after the time limit has
been reached) is not allowed.
Parking Enforcement personnel
use tire chalking to determine the length of time a vehicle is parked
in a space. It is illegal to remove a chalk mark from your
vehicle's tire.
Additional long-term public
parking is available at our parking garages and lots.

Parking Meter Tips
-
Metered Parking is free after 6 p.m. Monday
through Saturdays and all day on Sundays
-
Metered Parking is available to those with
a valid handicap permit for the time limit posted.
-
Meters have a two-hour time limit,
with the exception of Waterside meters (15 mins.). Patrons
are encouraged to utilize one of the City's parking garages or
lots if their stay will be longer than two hours.
-
A bagged meter indicates a space that has
been closed by order of the Police or that has been
rented, usually by a contractor working in the area. If
you park at a bagged meter, your vehicle is subject to being
towed.
-
For commercial rental of meters, contact the
Parking Division at 757-664-6222.
-
Do not park at a meter with the words "failed"
in the display window. This indicates the meter is malfunctioning
and it is a violation to park in the space. Please
report malfunctioning meters to the Parking Division at
757-664-6222.
