Five Points

Project:
The City Of
Norfolk completed in February 2004 a Streetscape Master Plan for the Five Points
Community. The project
focuses on Sewell’s Point Road, Five Point’s historic “Main
Street” from the Five Points Intersection to Widgeon Road.
Community support for a central pedestrian scaled activity
corridor has been building over the past several years. With the success of the Community Market, the reconstruction
of Norview High School, plans to relocate and expand the Norview
Community Center, and increasing demand for affordable housing and
business opportunities in Norfolk, the timing could not be better to
develop a comprehensive plan for the streetscape.
Plans are
building upon several related studies for the greater Five Points
community that establish a vision for a revitalized streetscape in
the heart of Five Points. We’re building from that vision, and focusing specifically
on streetscape elements, such as:
-
Reduced traffic congestion on Sewells Point
Road
-
Improved sidewalks and crosswalks
-
Lighting, benches,
trash receptacles
-
Landscaping
-
Public art
-
Street surfaces, width
and related systems
The
Five Points Task Force and the Five Points Partnership support this
project.
