Historic Preservation and Design Planning

Norfolk has a long and rich history that is reflected in its architecture.  This architectural legacy illustrates Norfolk’s history, creating a sense of place and contributing to the unique character of the City.

Currently, Norfolk has five local historic districts, twelve National Register districts, thirty-five individual properties on the National Register, and a host of other historic buildings, sites and neighborhoods.  Planning for the preservation of this heritage is vital to the City.
