The
Fairmount Park Neighborhood will be a safe, aesthetically appealing,
fiscally viable, family-oriented community with excellent
educational, social, recreational, and cultural opportunities
fostering a strong and diverse residential and business community,
with concern for ecological stewardship and cooperation with other
city bodies and agencies.
Fairmount Park Neighborhood Implementation Plan
The planning process is currently underway for the Fairmount Park
Neighborhood Implementation Plan. The Department of Planning and
Community Development has been working with a neighborhood steering committee
composed of various stakeholders in the community, including
business owners, church leaders, and residents, as well as
representatives from neighboring communities. The plan will
feature a community
vision, community goals, strategies, and specific actions needed to
revitalize the neighborhood.
Recognizing the importance of the impact of
the Lafayette Boulevard corridor on the Fairmount Park Neighborhood,
a consulting team lead by Dana Nottingham, of Nottingham and
Associates, was hired to create a "place-making" and
market strategy that will transform Lafayette Boulevard into a
viable residential and commercial corridor.
A community-wide
meeting was held on October 30, 2003 at the New
Hope Christian Community Center to discuss the plan and begin
prioritizing the action items. Over 50 residents, businesses,
and property owners turned out to participate in the event.
Fairmount
Park Civic League
The Fairmount Park Civic League has been active for 22 years, with a
current membership of over 100 residents. They have been involved in
various activities, including the National Night out for Crime
Prevention, the House of the Month Program, Adopt-A-Cop program,
neighborhood area clean-ups, kite flying children’s event and
voter registration drives.
Fairmount
Park Task Force
The Fairmount Park Task
Force was
formed in July of 2001. It serves as a forum for elected officials,
city staff, residents, and business owners to come together to work
to create a community that is a community of choice, where residents
enjoy a high degree of quality of life through recreation,
education, and social activities. Community Residents and Business
Owners are encouraged to attend. Vice Mayor Daun Hester
and Councilman Anthony Burfoot
serve as co-chairs of the Task Force.
The Task Force meets the 2nd Thursday of
every other month at 7:00 pm at the New Hope Christian Community
Center on 3241 Brest Avenue.
