Southside Strategic Plan   50,758 KB

The planning process for the development of a Strategic Plan for Southside began in March of 2002, with a presentation to the Southside Task Force.

Managed by the Norfolk Department of Planning and Community Development, EDAW, Inc., a national land use and planning consulting firm, is the lead consultant for the study, with participation from the engineering firm of Kimley Horn, Associates and the economics consulting firm of ERA, Inc.

The strategic plan covers the Berkley, Campostella, and Campostella Heights neighborhoods, and includes recommendations for improving both the near and long term future of these communities.

The first phase of the Planning Process included a community visioning session, which was held on April 25, 2002. At that time, citizens were asked to discuss their vision for the community, what they felt were the strengths and weaknesses of the Southside, and finally what about the area should be improved.  This meeting was very well attended by the community.

The second community workshop was held August 8, 2002. At this meeting EDAW presented three maps showing land use alternatives for the area.  These alternatives were developed from input received from the community and city staff.

The third community meeting was held on Tuesday, July 15, 2003.  The consultant team, EDAW, presented the proposed Southside Strategic Plan.
