Requirements:

• Application for Demolition Permit by the Department of Planning and Community Development, Granby Municipal Building, 400 Granby Street
• Bring Demolition Permit to Bureau of Environmental Health and pay fee.

Procedure:

• Inspection of the project will be made within 24 hours.
• If no rats are found a statement will be sent to the Department of Planning and Community Development releasing the property for demolition.
• If rats are found the owner is responsible for eliminating the rats.
• A re-inspection will be conducted by the Bureau within 10 to 12 days.
• Upon successful abatement a statement will be sent to the Department of Planning and Community Development releasing the property for demolition.

Time Frame:
Permits will be granted by the Norfolk’s Department of Public Health, Bureau of Environmental Health Services within three to four days if no rat infestation is observed.

The process will be extended approximately two weeks if an infestation needs to be treated and abated.

Rat Free Certificate expires 30 days from issuance. After 30 days, the application must be reactivated and an additional $30 fee is required.
