Riverside Memorial Park was established in 1910 in the Campostella Heights area of Norfolk by a private company. The 44 acres of cemetery was purchased by the City of Norfolk in 1971. During World War II Riverside was used by the Army as a small base because of its bell tower. The tower, used as a watch tower, was the highest point in Norfolk at the time. It was damaged by an explosion in one of the local shipyards and had to be torn down.
