Initiated as a playground track and field program in 1975 in Charleston, West Virginia, by Dr. Donald P. Cohen, Hershey’s Youth Program has
become the largest youth sports program of its kind in North America.
The program’s goal is to provide a quality recreation program where children have fun and are introduced to physical fitness through basic
track and field events, such as running, jumping and throwing.
Sponsors of the event include the National Recreation and Park Association, the National Association of Sports and Physical Education, the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, and Athletics Canada. The local City of Norfolk Hershey’s Track and Field Games are
sponsored by the City of Norfolk Department of Recreation, Parks and Open Space (RPOS).
City of Norfolk residents, ages 9-14, as of December 31, 2009, can participate in the local meet to be held on Saturday, May 9, at the
Booker T. Washington High School Stadium. This is a free event. However, advanced registration is required to participate.
Complete the registration form below and return it, along with a copy of the participant’s birth certificate, to any Department of
Recreation, Parks and Open Space facility or mail it to: Lakewood Athletic Office, Attn.: HTF Games, 1612 Willow Wood Drive, Norfolk, VA
