THERAPEUTIC
RECREATION CENTER
SPRING
SESSION 2008
Therapeutic
Recreation programs utilize recreation to help individuals
with temporary impairments, health conditions, and
disabilities to increase independence, strengthen leisure
skills, and enhance personal well being – physically,
cognitively, emotionally, and socially in a rehabilitative
environment. Therapeutic
Recreation can improve functional abilities, enhance
recreation skills and attitudes, build confidence, ease
fears, improve physical abilities, promote greater
self-reliance, strengthen interpersonal skills, manage
stress, and enrich the quality of life.
Therapeutic Recreation can help people of all ages
and backgrounds to get well, live well, and stay well!
Registration will be
accepted only at the Therapeutic Recreation Center.
Please bring all registration forms and checks
(payable to City of Norfolk Treasurer) to the Therapeutic
Recreation Center, 180 East Evans Street, Norfolk, VA 23503.
Money is due at the time of registration.
In order to register, you must have participated in
an intake assessment with CTRS staff and all required forms
must be completed. If
you have any questions please call 441-1764.
Registration will not be accepted prior to the
registration date. You

The
first day of Spring registration is Thursday, March 13, 2008
at 9:00 a.m. for the Therapeutic Recreation Center ONLY!
A late fee of $5 is charged after the registration
deadline. Class sizes are limited, so register early. No
mail-in registration is accepted.

“Miracles
in Art” Show
Come and see all the beautiful
artwork created by your peers at the Paul St. Gallery in the
Titustown Visual
Arts Center. Admission
is FREE April 10-17, 2008.

“Day
for People with disABILITIES”
Join us
on Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 10:00am - 2:00pm at the
Virginia Zoo. Come
to this resource fair and collect information from service
providers and organizations that support individuals with a
disability. This
event will also include the Norfolk Public Safety Expo,
children’s activities, a food vendor, and entertainment.
People with a disability and their caregivers are
provided free admission - regular admission applies to all
others. For more

NORFOLK
NEMOS-ALL AGES
The
Norfolk Nemos is our very own Norfolk Special Olympics Swim
Team. This team
has entered its fourth season which began January 2008.
Our swim season runs through the first Tuesday in
June. Practices
take place at Northside Pool from 7:00pm-8:30pm.
Athletes train for and compete at various local
tournaments and some of our athletes are selected to travel
and compete at the Special Olympics State Games in Richmond.
There is no charge to participate in any Norfolk
Special Olympics sports and no previous swimming skills are
required. Athletes
must be at least eight years old and have an intellectual
disability. For
