City Swimming Pools
The Norfolk Department of Recreation, Parks, and Open Space’s Aquatics Division operates three indoor pools year-round. Three outdoor pools are operated on a seasonal basis. All facilities offer a wide range of aquatic programming including: swimming lessons, water fitness, lifeguard training, lap swimming, private swim lessons, youth group rentals, youth birthday party rentals, and open recreational swimming. Seasonal listings of fee-based classes are included in the Good Times publication.
A Facility Use I.D. Card and a daily admission fee are required to access both Huntersville and Northside indoor swimming pools. A Facility Use I.D. Card is required use Berkley and Chesterfield seasonal outdoor swimming pools as no money is accepted at these two sites. Summer Plunge is a free program that transports young people from various Norfolk neighborhoods to three City pools -- Huntersville, Chesterfield, and Berkley. The program provides opportunities for Norfolk youth ages 6-18 to learn water safety and basic swimming skills while participating in fun water activities. The Summer Plunge program runs seasonally from July to August. Registration by a parent/guardian is required, and the program begins in June each year. Waterline Teens – Keeping Heads above Water
Filmed in Norfolk, the Department of Health, Norfolk Tides baseball team, and the City of Norfolk Aquatics Division created this video to educate local teenagers and their parents of the potential dangers in the open water and how to help others in distress. Please click on video to view program.
