Volunteer Opportunities

Are you interested in making a difference in your community? Do you have great skills that you would like to offer to those who need assistance? YOU can make a difference by becoming a volunteer. The Department of Recreation, Parks & Open Space has a number of exciting and rewarding opportunities where you can shine. Please see the Volunteer Brochure for a complete listing.

Volunteers must be at least 15 years old, and must be willing to abide by all policies and rules set forth by the Norfolk Department of Recreation, Parks & Open Space.

To apply, download and complete the Volunteer Application*, and submit by mail or in person to:
Rositsa Ivanova, Volunteer Coordinator
Norfolk Dept. of Recreation, Parks & Open Space
501 Boush St.
Norfolk, VA 23510

*Junior volunteers (ages 15-17) must also submit two completed Junior Volunteer Character Recommendations.

Applications will be reviewed during the first week of each month. All approved applicants will be contacted that week to set up an interview on the second Monday of the month.

NOTE TO ADULT APPLICANTS: Prior to volunteering with the Department of Recreation, Parks & Open Space, an individual must submit to a criminal background and sexual offender check. The background check is $25 per person, the cost of which must be incurred by the individual. Please submit your completed Authorization and Disclosure form and $25 check made out to Norfolk City Treasurer at the time of your volunteer interview.

Once an interview is completed and the background check is approved, volunteers will be placed and contacted with their assignments.
