Animal Licenses
What are the requirements for
obtaining an animal license?
Answer: A license is required when your cat or dog reaches the
age of four(4) months.
How much does the license cost?
Answer: City of Norfolk license fees are as follows:

What paperwork should I bring
to obtain a license?
Answer: A current rabies certificate is required. Additionally,
documentation that your animal has been spayed or neutered is required
in order to receive the reduced rate.
How long is the license valid?
Answer: Licenses are purchased annually. They are valid for one(1)
year, beginning January 1 and expire on December 31.
When do the licenses go on sale?
Answer: December 1st of each year.
What is the limitation on the
number of animals per household?
Answer: Section 6.1-8 of the Norfolk City Code allows no more
than four (4) adult dogs and four (4) adult cats in any one dwelling
unit or premises within the city limits.
Must I provide any documentation
if I need a duplicate license?
Duplicate licenses may only be issued through the Treasurer's Office.
You must bring your current animal license certificate. There is
a processing fee of $1.00 for a duplicate license.

Answer: Yes, please remit payment to "City Treasurer"
and mail to P.O. Box 3215, Norfolk, VA 23514-3215
