  What is Desktop Support?

"Desktop support" is maintaining computer hardware and software, printers, and other related equipment that is used by individuals to access computer networks and application systems.  It also includes monitoring the network and the connections between the computers to be sure everything is functioning correctly.

Computers can be either desktop or laptop.

Support involves keeping the hardware operational and installing software so the hardware is useful.

People who perform "desktop support" must be knowledgeable about computer hardware and how the complex and intricate parts work together.  They must also be experts in installing and using the software on the computers.

How Many Computers Does Utilities Have?

There are over 350 people in the Department of Utilities.  These people use more than 250 desktop computers, laptop computers, printers, scanners, and other peripherals to help them get the job done.
