Anthony
L. Burfoot Vice Mayor, City of Norfolk
Anthony L. Burfoot
was born in Norfolk, Virginia and educated in Norfolk’s public
school system. Upon graduation from Lake Taylor
High School, he completed undergraduate and graduate studies at
Virginia
State
University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Public
Administration and a Master’s Degree in Educational and
Administrative Supervision.
Elected to the
Norfolk City Council on July 1, 2002, representing Ward 3, Burfoot
was elected as Vice Mayor on January 23, 2007.
He currently chairs
the Fairmont Park Task Force, Norview Task Force, Broad Creek
Renaissance Steering Committee, Ward 3 Coalition which is comprised
of Ward 3 civic leagues, and he co-chairs the Health & Human
Development Committee. He was appointed by the Governor’s
Commission for Health Reform.
He is a member of the
Hampton Roads Planning Council, Bell Diamond Home Buyers Association
Board of Directors, YMCA, Community Development Board, and a former
member of the Norfolk Economic Development Authority.
With an extensive
background in education, he has served as a Math/Science teacher in
the public school system and an Adjunct professor of Mathematics and
Education at the Norfolk and Virginia Beach campuses of Tidewater
Community College.
While attending
Virginia
State
University, Mr. Burfoot played football and was a Division II All
American for three years. His love of sports led him to coach
football and basketball in the Richmond public school system for two
years.
He currently works as
an independent insurance broker, specializing in the areas of life
and annuities health. He is the CEO for Better Days Foundation,
Inc., and the President and CEO of Urban Restoration Development &
Consulting, LLC.
Mr. Burfoot is
married and is the proud father of three
beautiful daughters. He attends Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and
is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
