Award of Honor

The Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Award of Honor has a distinguished history.  Established in 2002 by then Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney, John R. Doyle III, just 5 people have received the award to date.  The award honors individuals from all walks of life who have gone above and beyond their civic or sworn duty – to help others facing criminal, imminent dangers in Norfolk.  These are people who – when faced with life-threatening situations and had the option of immediately seeking safe shelter – did not.  They voluntarily, without hesitation, put themselves in harm’s way to save others – people they didn’t even know.  Recipients of the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Award of Honor include a fast food restaurant worker, a pizza delivery driver, and 3 Norfolk Police Officers.  Each recipient receives a framed letter, signed by the Commonwealth’s Attorney, detailing the reasons for the Award of Honor.  A copy of the letter is also framed for hanging in the lobby of the Office.
