HEARING scheduled this day, under the State law, public notice having been
inserted in the local press by the City Clerk to hear comments on the conveyance
of city-owned property along West 38th Street to F.O.R.kids, Inc.
There
was no one present to speak in opposition of the application.
Thereupon,
an Ordinance entitled, “An Ordinance authorizing the conveyance of city-owned
property adjacent to the west side of 844 West 38th Street, Norfolk,
Virginia to F.O.R. kids, Inc.” was introduced in writing and read by its title.

and drainage easement and a pedestrian easement,” was introduced in

Commons to the City of Norfolk for the building of a new pump station, and
accepting payment of $40,000 from DunBarr, L.L.C.,” was introduced in

Tim Smith, 114 Carlisle Way, and
Dexter Rumsey, Vice President of Talbot Park Civic League, 409 Oak Grove Road,
spoke in support of the application, but expressed the neighborhood’s concerns.

City Manager and an Ordinance entitled, “An Ordinance authorizing that the city
participate with Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and the Office of Economic
Adjustment (OEA) in a joint land use study,” was introduced in writing and read
by its title.

NEW BUSINESS
The following school crossing
guards made various requests:
Phana Gallo, 8408 Nathan Avenue;
Carolyn Casey, 4856 Robin Hood Road; Catherine Dantzler, 8126 Tidewater Drive;
Edward Parham, Sr., 1527 Palmetto Street; Ronald Coleman, 1925 Robert Hall
Boulevard, Chesapeake, Virginia; and Harve Earl, 2524 Tidewater Drive.
Their requests were as follows:

Increase
pay for school crossing guards in the upcoming budget.
·
Provide
stronger law enforcement so as to decrease the number of law violators within
school crosswalks and boundaries.
·
Adopt
an ordinance to protect the safety of the guards as well as the children
crossing the streets from unsafe drivers.
·
Update
signs in crossing zones.
·
Reclassify
their positions from casual worker to part-time worker status.
·
Cost
of living allowance.
·
To
help boost moral, provide discounts at specialty shops throughout the city.
·
Provide
free city garage parking to crossing guards who are handling official business.
·
Provide
health care and retirement benefits.
Bill Rochevot, 170 West Seaview
Avenue, and Dan Montague, 4605 Krick Street, President of Sherwood Forest Civic
League, spoke in support of the crossing guards’ requests. Approximately 30 school crossing guards were
in attendance in support of the above-mentioned requests.
