PH-1                              PUBLIC HEARING scheduled this day pursuant to action of the Council on February 15, 2005 under the State law, public notice having been inserted in the local press by the City Clerk to hear comments on the application of Old Dominion University, to change the zoning from R-14 (High Density Multiple Family) to UV (University Village) on property located on Monarch Way between 41st and 43rd Streets.

 

                                      Thereupon, an Ordinance entitled, “An Ordinance to rezone property located on the west side of Monarch Way and extending between 41st and 43rd Streets from R-14 (High Density Multiple-Family) district to UV (University Village),” was introduced in writing and read by its title.

New Business

 

1.  Bernard Boykins, 906 Appomattox Street, representing the Disabled American Veterans, presented information to the Council as to how other cities are dealing with the homelessness issue and urged the City to focus on transitional housing versus permanent housing of homeless citizens.

 

2. David Kelly, 6460 Horton Circle, also representing the Disabled American Veterans, invited Council members to attend one of their meetings and plans to research the program that Nashville, TN has implemented in regards to homelessness.

 

3.  Ellis James, 2021 Kenlake Place, urged Council to unite against recent legislation the General Assembly passed allowing for natural gas drilling in the Chesapeake Bay.
