Pre-Payable
Non-Traffic Misdemeanors Offenses
|
Certain traffic
and non-traffic offenses may be prepaid in advance of your court
date. The Code of Virginia,
1950, as amended, states that you may enter a written appearance,
waiver of court hearing, plea of guilty, and pay fines and costs
for those offenses listed in the following Uniform
Fee Schedules set out in the Rules
of Virginia Supreme Court:

Offenses - Rule 3C:2.
The City of Norfolk has also provided that certain offenses maybe
prepaid in advance of your court date.
Offenses
for which the fines and costs are most often prepaid:
Processing fees (court cost) are $65.00 for the first ticket and $11.00
for each additional charge on the same offense.

If you decide to pre-pay
in person, you can pay by cash, money order, check or credit
card.
If you decide to pre-pay
by mail, send your check or money order payable to "Norfolk
General District Court" to the proper clerks office (5 or
6) at the following address along with a copy of the paperwork
(summons or warrant) you received, the charge against you and your
court date.

If
you want a receipt, please include a self addressed and stamped
envelope with your payment.
If
you are charged with a pre-payable misdemeanor offense and you do
not pre-pay or you attempt to pre-pay but mail the wrong amount,
your case will be heard by the Court. If you do not prepay,
or if you pre-pay the wrong amount or if you do not appear in
court on your court date, your fine could be higher.
The
City of Norfolk and the Commonwealth of Virginia will
revise the list of pre-payable offenses, including
the amount of the fines and costs as soon as possible before the
new cost or fines take effect. A new pre-payable list
may take effect before this website is updated again. The
actual pre-payable list in effect on your offense date will be the
one that the clerk and the court observe.
You
should be aware that your drivers license will be suspended if you
are found guilty of an offense and do not pay your fines and court
costs in a timely manner. Also, under some circumstances and
in some misdemeanor cases, an arrest warrant could be issued for
you if you do not appear in court and/or pay your fines and costs.
