GROUP SERVICE AWARD What does success look like when you are trying to turn a neighborhood around? When you have spent years in the community, organizing events, reporting problems to the police, talking with young people and parents alike? Let me take you to a warm, summer evening not too long ago. As the members of this group joined neighbors, elected officials and police to parade up and down the streets. Residents not in the parade lined up in their lawns and behind fences. Many waved, some joined in. It was, above all, a place where people felt comfortable, safe, connected. In the words of their nominator, the members of this group should be the winner for all the hard work they have done and are still doing to make a safe and crime free neighborhood. It is the reason why so many new people have moved into this community. Members of the group are out every day trying to stop a problem before it grows. They work closely with the police – whether they see drug dealing or groups of young people from other neighborhoods gathering on the street corners. It gives me great pleasure to introduce the Group Service Award winners, the members of Lamberts Point Block Watch
