The Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response serves as the central point of contact for all Public Safety Dispatch Communications and Emergency Management for all natural and man-made disasters.Citizen Information During Emergencies
The Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response ensures that citizens and employees are provided with awareness and emergency preparedness information in an effort to minimize the potential for loss of life and property. During a large-scale emergency, the Center activates communications channels to keep residents, workers and businesses posted about the emergency and any action people should take to minimize the impact of the storm or other emergency.These information channels include, but are not limited to:- City website
- Citizen Automated Information Line, 664-7200
- Announcements via local media – television, newspapers and radio
- Cox TV48, Norfolk's cable news network
- Norfolk Alert (via phone/email)
- Information from on-scene public safety officials
