GHOST TALES & PIRATE TALES:  A Downtown Walkaround
  Fridays  &  Saturdays
  October 9th  -  November 20th

Historic Freemason Distric and Downtown Norfolk
Was a merchant from Norfolk the real Jack the Ripper?
Does the ghost of Dr. Richard Blow still haunt a Norfolk home?
Was a U.S. Navy destroyer teleported from Philadelphia to Norfolk during WWII in a top secret Navy incident known as the Philadelphia Experiment?
Was PIRATE TREASURE used to establish a local univeristy?
Come walk the cobblestone streets of the historic Freemason Distric and Downtown Norfolk for a night of history and mystery as you learn about our very own sea legends, tales and ghosts. This sometimes eerie 90-minute trek will highlight some of the new as well as old haunts - like Freemason Abbey and the Wells Theater - believed to be one of the most haunted places in Virginia. Be sure to say goodnight to Ned!
Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. And, bring a flashlight just in case.

TO LIVE FOREVER:  Ancient Egyptian Art and Artifacts

Pyramids and Pharaohs.  Sphinxes and sarcophagi.  The Ten Commandments.  The Book of the Dead.  Crocodiles, cobras, and Cleopatra.  What other culture evokes such rich imagination and echoes of immortality as ancient Egypt?
Exhibition of ancient Egyptian art and artifacts from the Brooklyn Museum explores the afterlife.
On October 14, the Nile comes to Norfolk with the public debut of To Live Forever: Egyptian Treasures from the Brooklyn Museum. This blockbuster show, on view through January 3, 2010 in the Large Changing Gallery, promises to be one of the most extraordinary exhibitions that the Chrysler Museum ever has hosted.
More than 120 rare objects—including mummies, coffins, sarcophagi, statuary, jewelry, and funerary shrouds—trace the Egyptians’ all-consuming efforts to outfit their tombs to please the gods, subdue death, and allow them to “live forever” in the afterlife.
The Chrysler is proud to be the only Mid-Atlantic venue for this remarkable display of Egyptian artifacts related to their quest to achieve eternal life.

10th ANNUAL MASQUERADE IN GHENT
  Friday, October 30th
5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.
Arrive early...the costume contest registration will begin at 4:30PM.
Judges will award prizes in several categories including Best Adult Costume, Best Children's Costume, Best Dog Costume, and Best in Show.
Enjoy live music from House on Fire, games for the kids & adults, refreshments and Oktoberfest Beverages.
This year's event will be held on the corner of 20th & Manteo Streets behind the Dog 'N Burger.
The event is free and open to the public.  Ample parking can be found along the street and at surrounding shopping centers.

 

TRICKS, TREATS AND ZOMBIES AT THE WATERSIDE
  Friday, October 30th and Saturday, October 31st
Free events specifically designed with families in mind, the festivities will commence on Friday, October 30th, when the “20/20 Teen Club” returns. Hosted inside Dock Master’s, located on the first floor of Waterside, the teen dance event for youth 13-18 years old will be a safe, secure, non-alcoholic “party” with a “live” DJ, great club music, exciting lights, and Halloween fun.
On Saturday, October 31st, from noon-5pm, Hallow Wee Ones, 12 and under, can enjoy safe trick or treating in the center court Pumpkin Patch donated by the 5 Points Community Farm Market. At 1:30pm, costume contests, age specific: infant-3, and 4-12 years old, will allow participants to win prizes including theme park tickets, gift cards and cash. There will also be a category for “Best Dressed Family”. All costumes will be judged on creativity, originality, execution, production and scariness.
At 2pm, following the costume contests, persons of all ages can join “the undead” in the first ever Downtown Norfolk Family Zombie Walk starting inside the Waterside and looping through Town Point Park. The Zombie Walk movement is one that enjoys great popularity in countries all across the world. Those who dress in Zombie garb will have the chance to BOB FOR APPLES to win great prizes including IPOD APPLES. For those who may wish to walk, but who may not have the requisite Zombie look, a Zombie face painter will be on-site from noon-2pm.
And finally, from 3pm to 5pm, everyone, young and old, can enjoy the Waterside “Thriller” Dance Party. A tribute to Michael Jackson, the party will feature a “live” DJ spinning the King of Pop’s greatest hits and contests awarding prizes for the Best MJ Impersonation, the Best MJ Costume and the Best MJ Dance Moves.
Free and open to the public, Halloween on the Waterside, will have something for everyone.

The Ghoul sisters, a trio of weirdies who believe they're ravishing beauties, live next to the 'gator swamp, and they're about to be evicted by Lawyer Fleasom, "meanest man in Graveyard corners."
