Description:

Assist Nauticus Educators with programming.

Essential Functions:

Interpret exhibits and participate in hands-on science activities, demonstrations, programs, and workshops for students, teachers, scouts and the general public. 

Interact with guests in a friendly, helpful and positive manner.

Maintain thorough knowledge of all Nauticus facilities, exhibits, programming and policies.

Education/Experience/Skills:

Excellent communication and customer service skills are necessary for this position.

Good communication skills, a willingness to initiate visitor interaction, and the ability to interact positively with many types and ages of people are essential for this position. 

This position requires someone who can interact positively with many types of people, responds calmly in all situations, and has a clear speaking voice.

Volunteers are required to attend program specific training sessions and informational meetings in addition to general training.

Must be at least 14 years old, or 10 years old and volunteering alongside an adult over age 18.

Location:

At least two shifts per month on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. – 1 p.m.

 

 

Description:

Welcome school groups and inform them of Nauticus’ guidelines, direct the group to various locations throughout the building, coordinate storage and retrieval of lunches, and ensure that the group receives courteours and personal attention.

Description:

Lead tours of the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center. 

Essential Functions:

Provide guests with information about the history of the half moone fort, cruise operations, special events spaces, the connection between Bermuda and Virginia, and the Beazley classic ocean liner collection. 

Education/Experience/Skills:

Excellent public speaking skills, the ability to lead walking tours, the ability to recall information, and customer service skills are necessary for this position.

  • Unpacks boxes of merchandise and arranges on display.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of all Maritime Center facilities, exhibits, programming and policies.
  • Assists guests having special problems, questions or complaints.

 

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact positively with many types and ages of people are essential for this position. 
  • Must be at least 14 years old.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift from ground to above shoulder, climb, bend, stoop, sit, push, pull and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.

Knowledge of horticultural is helpful but not necessary. Volunteer should enjoy working outside with plants, trees, and shrubbery.

Volunteers have to be 15 years or older to participate.  This opportunity is a great experience for those who wish to pursue a career in zoology or veterinarian medicine.
