Internships offer us the opportunity to ensure that future professionals will enter the human services field with a sense of responsibility, dedication, and commitment; ready to make a positive difference in the lives of the people we serve. The hard work and energy that we put into making your internship experience successful will pay off in dedicated professionals who may, one day, wish to return to our department as employees.

Our goals are to provide you with the following opportunities:

  • To apply academic course work to a hands-on practical experience.
  • To problem solve in a work environment.
  • To exchange ideas with professionals in the field.
  • To gain pride in and appreciation of the field.
  • To gain competent professional skills in a variety of settings.
  • To expose you to projects and tasks that will provide practical experience for future job opportunities and which support and contribute to the Norfolk Department of Human Services’ delivery of services.
