FLEET RESERVE ASSOCIATION WREATH LAYING AND TWO BELL CEREMONY

The Fleet Reserve Association, Norfolk Branch 5 will conduct its eighth annual Wreath Laying and Two-Bell Ceremony at the Lone Sailor statue in Wisconsin Square.
The ceremony will honor all those who have given their lives for our country with particular emphasis to those dedicated by the memorials in Wisconsin Square.
The public is invited.
The Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) is a veterans organization composed of active duty, retired, reserves and veterans of the U. S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
 
TIDES TO HOST ALL AMERICAN COOKOUT

The package includes a reserved ticket to the game as well as a two-hour long all-you-can-eat buffet.
The cost is $25 with an advanced reservation.
They will be on sale by Friday, May 20 and can be purchased online, over the phone or by visiting the Harbor Park Box Office.
The buffet with include: All Beef Gwaltney Hotdogs, Hamburgers with all the fix-ins, BBQ Pork Sandwiches, Golden Fried Chicken, Baked Beans, Coleslaw and Potato Salad, Watermelon.

SURVIVING MEMBERS OF THE 111th FIELD ARTILLERY "NORFOLK LIGHT ARTILLERY BLUES”

The surviving members of the 111th Field Artillery “Norfolk Light Artillery Blues” of the 29th Infantry Division will host their annual celebration located at the south end of Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The members gather at the Veteran’s Memorial donated by William E. Halstead, Jr. to share their experiences and memories in Normandy, France on D-Day.
After the conclusion of the ceremony, a wreath is based at the base of the memorial honoring their fallen comrades.
William E. Halstead, Jr. was the instrumental force behind this celebration until his death in 2003.  Carl Barber, US Army Retired, a member of the VFW Post 5, carries on the tradition.

THE CIVIL WAR - VISUAL PERSPECTIVES, THEN AND NOW

The Chrysler Museum will be hosting a series of exhibitions related to the 150th anniversary of the Civil War over the next four years, and all will bring diverse perspectives to the viewer.
This exhibition ranges from archival photographs to ground-breaking works by Kara Walker.
 
VICTORY ROVER NAVAL BASE CRUISES

The Victory Rover offers 2 Hour narrated naval base cruises daily from Nauticus, home of the Battleship Wisconsin.
Late May - Labor Day, 2011  Three cruises daily: Cruises will depart at 11:00am; 2:00pm and 5:30pm Every Day.
Our professional captains provide a fascinating and entertaining commentary as we cruise the smooth waters of the Elizabeth River and Hampton Roads Harbor. Thrill to the sight of Aircraft Carriers, Nuclear Submarines, Guided Missile Cruisers, and all of the other ships that form the World's most powerful Armada.
The cost is $18 for adults and $10.00 for children.
Combo Ticket includes Cruise and Admission to Nauticus and the Battleship Wisconsin: $25 for adults and $17 for children.

Walk ups are welcome subject to availability.

NAVAL STATION NORFOLK SHIP/BASE TOURS

Naval Station Norfolk in association with Tidewater Tours Inc. present the naval tour schedule for the 2011 tour season:
Mar 14 - May 22, 2011  Four tours daily: Tours will depart at 11:00am; 12 noon; 1:00pm and 2:00pm.
May 23 - Sept 4, 2011  Nine tours daily: Tours will depart at 10:00am, 10:30am, 11:00am, 11:30am, 12 noon, 12:30pm, 1:00pm, 1:30pm, and 2:00pm.
The 45-minute tour is conducted by Naval personnel.  Visitors will have an opportunity to see aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, amphibious assault ships and one of the busiest airfields in the country.  The tour also features historic homes from the 1907 Jamestown Exposition.
The cost is $10 for adults and $5.00 for children 3-11 and senior citizens over the age of 60.  A picture ID is required for all adults.
Tour buses are not handicapped accessible.
