| SURVIVING MEMBERS OF THE 111th FIELD ARTILLERY "NORFOLK LIGHT ARTILLERY BLUES” |

The surviving members of the 111th Field Artillery “Norfolk Light Artillery Blues” of the 29th Infantry Division will host their annual celebration located at the south end of Forest Lawn Cemetery. |
|
The members gather at the Veteran’s Memorial donated by William E. Halstead, Jr. to share their experiences and memories in Normandy, France on D-Day. |
|
After the conclusion of the ceremony, a wreath is based at the base of the memorial honoring their fallen comrades.
|
|
William E. Halstead, Jr. was the instrumental force behind this celebration until his death in 2003. Carl Barber, US Army Retired, a member of the VFW Post 5, carries on the tradition.

Join the City of Norfolk, the Hampton Roads Naval Museum and Nauticus for this inaugural event commemorating our nation's men and women who died while in service to their country aboard the Battleship Wisconsin. |
|
The service will represent the first time all five organizations have gathered for a Memorial Day commemoration. The event will include remarks by Norfolk Mayor Paul D. Fraim and two distinguished representatives from the USS Wisconsin Association Council, Vice President Bill Ridings and Deacon Bob Simpson. The ceremony will conclude with a Memorial Service for 36 former crew members and three spouses who have passed away since the Association’s last service, which was held August 2008. |

Naval Station Norfolk in association with Tidewater Tours Inc. present the naval tour schedule for the 2009 tour season: |

Mar 18 - May 23, 2009 Four tours daily: Tours will depart at 11:00am; 12 noon; 1:00pm and 2:00pm.

May 24 - Sept 5, 2009 Nine tours daily: Tours will depart at 10:00am, 10:30am, 11:00am, 11:30am, 12 noon, 12:30pm, 1:00pm, 1:30pm, and 2:00pm.
|
|
The 45-minute tour is conducted by Naval personnel. Visitors will have an opportunity to see aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, amphibious assault ships and one of the busiest airfields in the country. The tour also features historic homes from the 1907 Jamestown Exposition. |
|
The cost is $10 for adults and $5.00 for children 3-11 and senior citizens over the age of 60. A picture ID is required for all adults. |
|
Tour buses are not handicapped accessible. |
