Animal Licenses
When do I need to obtain an animal license for my animal?
A license is required for every cat or dog residing in the City as soon as they reach 4 months of age.
What paperwork should I bring to obtain a license?
A current rabies certificate is required in order to obtain a license Additionally, documentation that your animal has been spayed or neutered is required in order to receive the reduced rate.
How long is the license valid?
Licenses are purchased annually. They are valid for one(1) year, beginning January 1 and expire on December 31.
When do the licenses go on sale?
Licenses may be purchased after December 1st of each year.
What is the limitation on the number of animals per household?
Section 6.1-8 of the Norfolk City Code allows no more than four (4) adult dogs and four (4) adult cats in any one dwelling unit or premises within the city limits.
