Uniform Statewide Building Code (roll over image labels for specific Provision)
The Department of Neighborhood Preservation enforces the maintenance provisions of the Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC). The USBC apply to all existing buildings, both residential and commercial whether occupied or vacant.
Approaches used to enforce the USBC include responses to complaints, neighborhood surveys, maintenance surveillance and responses to referrals. The time allotted for correcting violations can range from less than 24 hours to 30 days. Failure to comply with a notice of violation may lead to legal action that may result in fines up to $2500.
