Neighborhood University

Care to walk in the shoes of a community leader? Want to know how to write a grant? Or do you simply wish to learn how to work more effectively with others?

Then sign on for courses with The Neighborhood University, a free community enrichment program administered by the Norfolk Department of Neighborhood and Leisure Services.

The Neighborhood University is dedicated to providing the highest quality training to citizens of Norfolk. From “Fundamentals of Community Leadership” to “Dealing With Difficult Neighbors,” the courses are intended to engage, inform and equip citizens with the training and technical assistance they need to be better advocates for their communities, whether they aspire to political office or just want to make a difference in their neighborhood.

Norfolk Neighborhood Pride Tours

Norfolk has more than 120 neighborhoods and the best way to discover the feel and flavor of these diverse communities is to hit the road -- through Neighborhood Pride Tours.

On designated Saturdays, from February through November in 2003, the trolleys will make tracks to a different area of the city.

As you journey along, tour guides -- who live and work in Norfolk – regale riders with information only an insider would know. Hear the stories behind local landmarks, identify architectural home styles prominent in Norfolk and learn more about the City’s colorful cast of historic characters.

The 1 ˝-hour trolley excursions depart from Harbor Park and are sponsored in part by HRT and the City of Norfolk.
