Our mission is to provide the citizens of the City of Norfolk with a quality, integrated waste management collection system and maintain a clean city.

The Waste Management Division collects about 86,000 tons of refuse, bulk waste, and yard waste annually from 61,000 residences and businesses. The Division also provides refuse collection for such special events as Harborfest, Earth Day, Clean the Bay Day, civic league and community organization cleanups.

It is the responsibility of the Division to make sure that all containerized garbage and trash properly set out is picked up on the appropriate day.

In the Division's efforts to protect the environment, numerous recycling programs have been implemented. In collaboration with the Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) and the Environmental Commission, the Division also provides weekly curbside recycling services to over 57,000 residences and offers convenient drop off recycling centers for those without curbside services. Recycling is an effective way to reduce the volume of trash going to landfills and conserve natural resources. Everyone is encouraged to do his or her part to help keep Norfolk clean.
