HOLIDAY WASTE COLLECTION

2008 WASTE MANAGEMENT HOLIDAY COLLECTION SCHEDULE

A number of legal holidays falls on a Monday, and since refuse collectors do not pick up trash in the city of Norfolk on Mondays there is no change in service.  Bulk pick-up requests however, must be called in or emailed in by 3:00 p.m. on the Friday before the holiday.

When holidays fall during the week, trash and recyclables will still be collected as scheduled.  The only exception is Christmas Day.  This year, Christmas falls on a Thursday.  Thursday collection day will shift to Saturday, December 27

Collection of blue recycling carts by SPSA will follow the same schedule as the City of Norfolk’s waste collection.  Be sure to place your 90-gallon blue recycling cart at the curb filled with recyclable materials that are listed on top of the cart lids.

Below is a list of observed legal holidays in 2008:

New Year’s Day – Tuesday, January 1                          Labor Day – Monday, September 1

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – Monday, January 21       Veterans’ Day – Tuesday, November 11

Presidents’ Day – Monday, February 18                       Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, November 27

Memorial Day – Monday, May 26                                   Day after Thanksgiving - Friday, November 28

Independence Day – Friday, July 4                                 Christmas Day – Thursday, December 25

Please remember that all trash containers and the 90-gallon blue recycling cart can be placed at the curb after 5:00 p.m. the day before collection and no later than 7:00 a.m. the morning of collection.
