2011 Redistricting

Every ten years the City of Norfolk must adjust its ward and superward lines to conform to the Constitutional requirements of one person/one vote as well as statutory requirements under the federal Voting Rights Act.  The 2010 Census has shown that Norfolk has added 8,400 persons since 2000 and some of the population has shifted, making adjustments necessary.  In this website we attach variously suggested changes that City Council is considering.  We hope that you will take the time to study the plans and tell us about any problems you might see.  The redistricting ordinances will appear as regular items on the June 28 City Council agenda, with a choice between Alternative 2a and Alternative 3.  Interested persons will be able to sign up to speak about these alternatives.  Comments regarding redistricting may be emailed to Ccouncil@Norfolk.gov.
