City of Norfolk Retired Employees Association  

The Retired Employees Association provides a mechanism for retirees joining together as one voice to further common goals and objectives and to enhance the quality of life for its members and their families. The Association operates as an independent, non-profit, non-partisan, non-sectarian organization.

The City of Norfolk is graciously allowing their retirees to get the same discounts on shows/entertainment that are offered to current employees.  Here are some upcoming opportunities:

Group Objectives

The objectives of the City of Norfolk Retired Employees Association are:

  • To promote and actively support a program designed to improve benefits for all retired employees from the City of Norfolk and their surviving spouses and beneficiaries
  • To present informational programs designed to benefit the membership and to build good relationships, support and cooperation between this Association and the Norfolk City Government

Senior Food Basket Project:  We will be collecting non-perishables and food gift cards at the November meeting to provide a food basket for a retiree in need this holiday season.   

Note the November 20th date for our monthly meeting, held early this month to accommodate members' Thanksgiving plans. 

Association meetings are held the last Friday of each month at 10:30 a.m. at the Titustown Recreation Center, 7545 Diven Street, Norfolk, VA.         NOTE:  We switched back because of lack of parking and some issues with room setup.

Becoming a member is a great way to stay in touch with former work associates.

Membership in the Association is free and is available to every retired employee from the City of Norfolk.

An optional donation of $5.00 is payable in the month of January.  Dues are not prorated.

Elections and terms of officers:

Elections are held in even numbered years for terms beginning the following year. Officers are elected for a two-year term. No officer, except the Secretary or Treasurer, shall serve more than two consecutive years in the same office, unless filling an unexpired term prior to regular elections.

Meetings provide an opportunity for discussion and action on issues/concerns of retired employees.

What can you expect?
In addition to the regular business of the Association, most monthly meetings feature a guest speaker providing information of interest to seniors.  Topics have included:  retiree benefits; health issues; investments, insurance, estate planning; employment; volunteering; travel; local history; City government; and more.

November 20th  Our speaker for the November meeting will be Captain Roger Stephenson.  The topic is: Don't be a Victim -- Emphasis on the Holidays.
