Department of Recreation, Parks & Open Space
Recreation Master Plan
The Department of Recreation,
Parks & Open Space is now working with
a consulting firm to develop a
Recreation Master Plan. This
process is being led by the firm of Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin of
West Palm Beach, Fla.
The master plan process will involve
an analysis of Norfolk’s existing
recreation centers, parks, open
spaces and recreational amenities,
an assessment of needs and
priorities, creation of a conceptual
vision for the city, and
implementation strategies.
A long-term goal of the
Recreation Master Plan is to obtain
accreditation through the Commission for Accreditation of
Park and Recreation Agencies
(CAPRA), an essential piece to
producing top-quality recreational
facilities for Norfolk’s citizens.
A critical component of the
Recreation Master Plan process is
public participation in the form of
mail and telephone surveys, which
were conducted in September. Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin
also conducted two evening forums for the public, allowing citizens to dialogue with the
consultants about current parks
and recreation facilities and their
ideas and priorities for future
facilities.
Glatting Jackson will return to present their findings to the public -- date and time TBA.
