Mission

Each year thousands of children across America are injured in traffic-related crashes. Many of these crashes are due to the children's lack of knowledge of the traffic environment.

In order to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries in this area, the Safety City program for school children, primarily those in grades K – 2, was created.

Partners in this program include: the Norfolk Police Department, Norfolk Public Schools, DRIVE SMART Hampton Roads, AAA of Tidewater, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, the City of Norfolk, the Norfolk business community, The Norfolk Foundation and other concerned citizens.

Safety City is dedicated to protecting young lives through instruction in the observance of safety rules for pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular travel.
