Virginia Arts Festival

April 16-May 30

Since 1997, the Virginia Arts Festival has transformed the cultural scene in southeastern Virginia, presenting great performers from around the world to local audiences and making this historic, recreation-rich region a cultural destination for visitors from across the United States and around the world. In its 16th season, the Virginia Arts Festival will bring dozens of performances to Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, and their surrounding communities.

Hermitage Museum & Gardens: Back Lawn.

Live music on the Hermitage back lawn. Bring a picnic, lawn chairs and blankets. Cash bar - no outside alcohol permitted.

Mahler's 8th Symphony

Sunday May 27 8:00 PM

Chrysler Hall: Mahler's 8th Symphony. Once in a Lifetime Experience! Virginia Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.

It’s a sound that envelops you as it fills the hall with majesty: an orchestra of 100, masses choruses of 300, and eight soloists, led by the amazing JoAnn Falletta, joined as on in the soaring glory of Gustav Mahler’s vision of divine redemption.

Virginia Symphony Concert With Fireworks

Friday June 1 8:00 PM

Chrysler Museum - On the lawn: Under the baton of Maestro Benjamin Rous.

Highlights will include favorites by Beethoven, Rossini, Strauss, and Rimsky-Korsakov. The grand finale will be a thrilling performance of the Tchaikovsky’s rousing 1812 Overture—complete with live fireworks shot from the roof of the Museum.

Chrysler Hall: Festival Finale & OpSail 2012 Virginia Opening Night Gala.

To celebrate the launch of OpSail 2012 Virginia one of the largest tall ship and maritime events in history acclaimed Broadway conductor and musical director Rob Fisher pilots the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and acclaimed Broadway performers through favorite music with a nautical theme.

The Port of Virginia will once again host an impressive fleet of tall ships, navy and military war ships representing the world. OpSail 2012 Virginia® is planned to illuminate the community with spectacle and festivity, and will place our Commonwealth front and center on the world stage.

Norfolk Bike Month is a community celebration of biking as an economical, environmentally friendly form of recreation that enhances productivity and overall health planned by The City of Norfolk's Department of Recreation, Parks and Open Space in collaboration with Cultural Facilities' Special Events, SevenVenues, Public Works, The Norfolk Police Department and Bike Norfolk.
