Employee's Birthday
This holiday may be taken on the employee's birthday; however, the employee's department head may authorize the leave day to be taken at any time during the calendar year in which the birthday falls. New hires may take the birthday holiday in the initial calendar year only if their birthday occurs on or after their hire date. (City Code Section 2-48 revised 6/23/09). The normal departmental request/approval scheduling procedures apply.
Diversity Day
One day of leave with pay (based on an employee's approved standard work schedule), on a day to be chosen by each individual employee, for all employees except fire-rescue employees on a twenty-four-hour shift schedule, who shall be granted twenty-four hours of such leave. This day may be taken in half-day increments (based on an employee's approved standard work schedule). This day shall recognize the personal and religious diversity of the city's workforce. All such leave is to be taken at a time approved by the director of the department concerned, consistent with the staffing and operational needs of the department. (City Code, Section 2 48. Holidays)
"If any holiday listed shall be a Saturday, it shall be observed on the preceding day, and if any holiday listed above shall be a Sunday, it shall be observed on the day following,......." (City Code, Section 2-48. Holidays)
