Thank you for your interest in employment opportunities with the City of Norfolk.
The City of Norfolk encourages the diligent efforts of job-seekers to pursue and sustain gainful employment. As an organization, we understand the importance of meaningful work and intend to foster an inclusive environment of productive, qualified, and competent individuals who seek to achieve a common goal.
In doing so, the City has moved to support the Ban-the-Box initiative, which aims to lessen barriers to employment for individuals with blemished criminal records.
Questions regarding criminal history will no longer be asked as a part of the regular employment application. These questions will only be asked as a part of the supplemental questions for specific positions which require the collection of criminal inquiry information in accordance with City policy and/or state or federal mandate. However, all candidates selected for hire will be subject to a preemployment background screen and drug test.
Applications for employment are accepted online through GovtJobs, the City's online employment application system.
To apply for or view our current vacancies, please click on "Job Listings" to the left to perform a job search.
The search function allows you to view employment opportunities by category or by department name.
New employment opportunities are posted daily and applications are only accepted for advertised positions through the established deadline.
Positions listed for continuous recruitment can be closed at any time.
For your convenience, our application system allows you to cut and paste your information into the City's official employment application. You can track the progress of your application, see the current status for the position(s) for which you have applied and update your application online. Applications cannot be changed after they are submitted.
If you need assistance with the application process or if you have questions, please contact us.
