Norfolk Animal Care Center

Norfolk Animal Care & Adoption Center (NACC)

NACC is the city’s animal sheltering facility. Our shelter is open-admission, providing a safe haven for animals from the City of Norfolk.

On average, the Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center cares for 400 to 600 animals each month, and over 5,000 animals each year.

Important Message on NACC Operations Impacted by COVID-19

Out of an abundance of caution during the uncertainty of COVID-19, all City of Norfolk buildings are closed to the public. NACC has altered its operations to continue to provide animal adoption services and to reunite lost pets with their families. Current Business Hours: Thursdays 2:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.; 12:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. all other days.

NACC is now offering scheduled appointments through WaitWhile, an online waitlist app that allows adopters to choose a time for a visit or to drop in and join the waitlist to enter dependent on occupancy. Can’t get to the app? Send us an email at nacc@norfolk.gov or a call at 757-441-5505. We will help you to book an appointment.
