Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common in many different animals such as camels, cattle, cats, and bats. The virus causing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), is not the same as the coronaviruses that commonly circulate among humans and cause mild illness, like the common cold. Many of the COVID-19 patients in the outbreak in Wuhan, China had some link to a large seafood and live animal market, suggesting the virus likely originated from an animal source. Currently, there are indications that the virus can now spread from person to person.
