Redistricting is required by federal law every 10 years, following the decennial census.
Comments from the public with respect to the submission may be made to the Clerk’s Office by email at ccouncil@norfolk.gov or by mail to Norfolk City Council, 810 Union Street, 10th Floor, Norfolk, VA 23510.
Comments will be accepted until April 30, 2022.
Wards and Superwards are required to:
- Consist of equal populations with a deviation of +/- 5%
- Be contiguous and definable by identifiable geographic boundaries
Precincts are required to:
- Contain no greater than 5,000 registered voters or no less than 500 registered voters
- Be contiguous and definable by identifiable geographic boundaries
- Not split local, state or federal electoral districts
Proposed ward changes:
- Wesley Precinct - move to Ward 1 from Ward 2
- Azalea Gardens Precinct – move to Ward 4 from Ward 5
- City Council advised that the proposed move of the Azalea Gardens Precinct from Ward 5 to Ward 4 and Superward 6 to Superward 7 should be removed from consideration (March 8, 2022 City Council meeting).
