Team Norfolk Nor'easter Update 3-2-18 1200

Posted on March 2, 2018 at 11:59 AM by Jim Redick

All –

We recently concluded a conference call with the NWS, Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Dominion Energy and the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads.  Here’s the latest.

Based on the latest Tide chart for Sewell’s Point, we’re reminded that we’re going to receive 3-4 consecutive and stacking minor to moderate high tides which will result in moderate flood levels.  Moreover, beach erosion will be an issue; however, per the experimental USGS / NOAA / NWS Total Water Level and Coastal Change Forecast Viewer, the Bay area does not appear as vulnerable as the Virginia Beach coast and that of the Eastern Shore and the Outer Banks (click here for graphic).

As it pertains to power outages, the Dominion Energy Outage Viewer shows 1,530 outages in Norfolk out of 100,113 customers (1.5%).  Dominion is fully engaged and will continue to be throughout the incident.

Dominion message to the community: Windy weather conditions may cause downed power lines. Please stay clear of lines and report to 866-366-4357.

USCG Sector Hampton Roads reported modified port condition YANKEE which means vessel traffic control measures are in effect.

Next NWS update is expected later this afternoon.  If there is nothing significant, I will simply post a spot report to this blog without sending an alert.
